The Adopt-A-Family event is organized by the County of Ventura Human Services Agency Homeless Services Program. The Homeless Services Program helps families who are homeless or at-risk of being homeless year-round. When Homeless Services Social Workers successfully house families, these formerly homeless families often live on a tight budget. During the holiday season, these vulnerable families may be faced with the difficult decision of either paying rent and utilities or provide gifts and food for their children for the holidays. The goal of this event is to help alleviate the stress and financial decisions by asking for donors to help provide a “normal” joyful Christmas for our families, which can help the goal of Homeless Services Program to prevent any financial decisions that could jeopardize their housing stability and lead them back to homelessness. Our Homeless Services Social Workers will identify families most in need. The family will create a “wish list”, and the program will match donors with the families. Once gifts are ready (preferably by 12/18/25), Homeless Services staff will coordinate with you receive and will deliver the gifts to the families. Your consideration in helping to make Christmas “normal” and financially sound, for these formally homeless families is appreciated. Please reach out if any questions or interest in participating.
