Who We Are

Mission: To conserve the lands and waters on which all life depends.

The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is a global environmental organization dedicated to conserving the lands and waters on which all life depends. In Ventura County, TNC focuses on protecting critical ecosystems, promoting sustainable practices, and enhancing community engagement in conservation efforts. Their initiatives aim to balance human needs with the preservation of natural habitats, ensuring a sustainable future for both people and nature.

What We Do

In Ventura County, The Nature Conservancy offers several programs and services aimed at environmental conservation:

  • Santa Clara River Preserve: Located in Ventura County, this preserve encompasses nearly 1,000 acres of restored riverside forest, wetlands, and upland habitats. It provides opportunities for outdoor education, community gatherings, wildlife viewing, and hiking.

  • Coastal Resilience Project: TNC leads the development of the Coastal Resilience approach and online decision support tool to address the effects of climate change and natural disasters in Ventura County. This project involves assembling a Steering Committee representing diverse stakeholders to make informed decisions on coastal resilience.

  • Santa Cruz Island Preserve: Situated approximately 25 miles off the coast of Southern California, Santa Cruz Island is the largest of California’s eight Channel Islands. The preserve is home to more than 1,000 species of plants and animals inhabiting its diverse landscapes, including high peaks, deep canyons, pastoral valleys, and 77 miles of dramatic coastline.
