Who We Are

Mission: To bring the services and facilities of the Camarillo Public Library to the attention and interest of the Camarillo community.

Friends of the Camarillo Library is a 501(c)3 nonprofit (EIN 95-3464905), all-volunteer run organization. We incorporated in 1974 and since then, we have worked diligently to raise supplemental funds for the Camarillo Library in support of Camarillo and surrounding communities. To this end, we run a bookstore selling gently used books and media and participate in community outreach to bring awareness to our organization and the resources available at the library. Funds are also raised through yearly membership dues and public donations. Over the past ten years, we’ve given an average of 97% of the funds we raised to the city for the Camarillo Library. Friends is part of the community, supported by the community, and gives back to the community. We are a separate entity from the Camarillo Library, yet our work is fundamentally tied to it.

What We Do

The Friends of the Camarillo Library offer several key services and programs:

  • Bookstore Operations: The Friends run a bookstore located in the Camarillo Library Courtyard, open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The bookstore sells gently used books, DVDs, music CDs, and audiobooks, with all proceeds supporting library programs and services.

  • Funding Library Programs: The organization provides financial support for a variety of library programs, including summer reading and activity programs, as well as monthly programs for adults. In the fiscal year 2021-2022, the Friends donated $95,000 to support books, materials, and services.

  • Volunteer Opportunities: The Friends offer volunteer opportunities for individuals interested in assisting with bookstore operations, event planning, and other activities that support the library.
