Who We Are

Mission: To help both rural and urban communities to conserve, protect, and restore natural resources.

The Ventura County Resource Conservation District (VCRCD) is a special district of the state of California dedicated to conserving, protecting, and restoring natural resources in rural and urban communities. Established under Division 9 of the Public Resource Code, VCRCD is one of 99 Resource Conservation Districts (RCDs) in California, working in partnership with state, federal, and local agencies. Governed by a seven-member board of directors appointed by the Ventura County Board of Supervisors, VCRCD plays a vital role in resource conservation, education, and community outreach.

What We Do

VCRCD provides scientific expertise, conservation programs, and education to promote sustainable land and water use in Ventura County. Our efforts focus on:

  • Watershed and habitat conservation – Protecting water quality, restoring wetlands, and enhancing wildlife habitats.
  • Sustainable agriculture – Assisting farmers and ranchers with irrigation management, soil health, and land conservation.
  • Forest stewardship and wildfire prevention – Managing fuels to reduce fire risk and improve forest health.
  • Water conservation – Promoting responsible water use through irrigation planning and efficiency programs.
  • Environmental education – Providing programs for schools, landowners, and the community on conservation practices.

VCRCD collaborates with landowners, community groups, and government agencies to implement conservation initiatives and secure funding through grants to support these efforts. Our work ensures the preservation of Ventura County’s natural resources, agricultural lands, and open spaces for future generations.
