VITAS is looking to match talented volunteers with elders near the end of life, who have a tale to tell. Life Story volunteers capture a patient’s meaningful moments and can develop a “digital or web-based biography” featuring the patient recalling his or her life stories.

VITAS Volunteer orientation is provided free of charge to help you learn many skills required to be an outstanding life story volunteer. Volunteers will also receive training in “life story/review” interview techniques and to improve their technical and creative skills.  Time and dates are ongoing and flexible.

VITAS invites friendly and well-behaved pets to join the Paw Pals program, in which animals and their humans learn how to visit patients at the end of their life. A registered VITAS Paw Pals visitor can offer comfort, bring back memories, encourage activity and provide unconditional love to VITAS patients. Your visits leave behind memories of you and your pet, and rekindle thoughts of other pets. 

Pet visits can sometimes reach a patient when no one else can. Our Paw Pals brightens the day for everyone when they visit.

All kinds of pets are invited to join VITAS Paw Pals Club.

Paw Pals must be well-groomed, at least one- year old, and have up-to-date health records. 

VITAS wants to enlist your services to care for terminally ill veterans living at home and in nursing homes, assisted living communities and medical centers. 

VITAS Veteran Volunteers may or may not be U.S. military veterans themselves. They are trained to meet the specific needs of terminally ill veterans living in their own homes, nursing homes, assisted living communities and veterans’ medical centers. 

Our Veteran Volunteers visit terminally ill veterans; drive and/or accompany a veteran to appointments, shopping and other events; help a veteran apply for benefits or learn about available assistance; help replace lost or stolen military medals by contacting appropriate agencies; listen to life stories or record or videotape a veteran’s reminiscences; telephone veterans to ask how they are doing; attend or help plan activities celebrating Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day; educate veteran’s groups about hospice services by speaking at their meetings.

Volunteer orientation teaches the skills required to be a hospice volunteer. VITAS Veteran Volunteers are further trained to meet specific end-of-life needs of veterans to improve their quality of life. Time and dates are ongoing and flexible. Orientation and training to be a VITAS Veteran Volunteer is free.

Veterans enjoy receiving visitors—people who will listen to their fading memories and reminiscences. Some veterans need transportation to appointments, shopping and other events. Diversity Collective Ventura County in partnership with Ventura County Public Health, have recently launched our HIV/AIDS Education and Prevention programs. This includes free anonymous and confidential HIV Rapid Testing twice a month at our Community Resource Center located at 2471 Portola Rd, suite 100 in Ventura. The program assistant would help coordinate testing events and help with outreach activities. There are opportunities to assist in program development as our program is continuously evolving and growing. 

Special Events Volunteers

We are looking for outgoing responsible and dependable volunteers (ages 21 and up) who perhaps can commit to a weekly basis.  Create cool ways for guests to meet fellow attendees and to encourage museum membership.  Minimum time commitment is 2-4 hours per event.  The volunteers will help a staff member set-up and clean-up the table display, interact with the public, and hand-out promotional materials.  This position requires weekend availability, some standing, and being outdoors or indoors depending on the event.

The CAM Studio Gallery the Carnegie Art Museum's studio and gallery, which is adjacent to the main building, is a studio exhibit space which features works from the Museum's permanent collection and is a working studio space for a guest Artist in Residence who keeps an open studio for visitors to interact and ask questions.

The CAM Studio Gallery Attendants are expected to serve as both hosts and educators, welcoming visitors of all ages and enriching their gallery experience.  They are relied upon to monitor the safety of the art displayed, record visitor stats and be courteous, friendly, and helpful to visitors.  Because this venue is still fairly new the visitor traffic is not as heavy as in the main building, but we always have projects on hand for volunteers to help with.  A six month commitment is required of all volunteers for this position.  

Volunteers are currently needed on a weekly basis for the following days:

Thursdays- 11:00am-2:00pm or 2:00pm-5:00pm

Fridays- 11:00am-2:00pm or 2:00pm-5:00pm

Saturdays- 11:00am-2:00pm and 2:00pm-5:00pm

Sundays- 1:00am-5:00pm  

Your help will be much needed in the coming months - especially in the spring! 

Over the next couple of weeks the OVLC staff will be assessing the damage to our preserves due to the Thomas Fire and we will be creating a plan of what will be needed for the recovery efforts. Currently, the preserves remain closed until further notice for the safety of our community.

Throughout the year, OVLC hosts various events, ranging from small gatherings to large events like our annual member celebration and Telluride Mountainfilm On Tour. The success of each event depends on unique talents from our volunteers, before, during and after the event.

Come help us remove crayfish from Tapia State Park! Crayfish are a non-native species to California, and they're considered invasive because they cause quite a bit of damage to the aquatic ecosystems. They prey on native species, reduce water quality, and cause problems with creek bed erosion. We need your help in trapping and removing the crayfish as well as picking up trash along the stream.

This event is great fun for volunteers of all ages! Volunteers 12 years or younger must be accompanied by an adult. Volunteers under the age of 18 must bring the Parental Consent Form with a parent or guardian's signature if the parent or guardian is not attending.

Registration is free, but required. Registered volunteers will receive an email confirmation with more details.

Give an Hour's mission is to develop national networks of volunteer professionals capable of responding to both acute and chronic conditions that arise within our society. Since 2005 we have focused on providing free and confidential mental health care to those who serve, our veterans, and their families. We have since expanded our efforts to address the mental health needs of other populations. Through the generosity, compassion, and expertise of Give an Hour's skilled volunteers, we are able to increase the likelihood that those in need receive the support and care they deserve.

We have recently opened Give an Hour California to expand our work in California, and have an office in Ventura County.  We are looking for outreach volunteers to help us grow our provider network and gather support for our effort.

CAREGIVERS often receives requests for respite, an arrangement which provides a regular planned interval of relief for a caregiver (usually an elderly spouse or adult child).. A volunteer would provide visiting so that the caregiver may get some things done (in or out of the home) and not worry about their loved one being alone.

Caring volunteers are always needed to drive seniors to periodic Dr. appts locally. Volunteers use their own car.

CAREGIVERS is looking for reliable, compassionate volunteers who can sign up to donate 2-4 hours, once a week, to a homebound senior in their city. We have a special need for volunteers in the Santa Paula area. Volunteers may assist with "neighborly" tasks such as providing a ride to a Dr. or grocery store, or helping out in the home with a bit of light housekeeping, or paperwork. Let us know what you enjoy doing so that we can match you with the right senior. The idea is for you to become friends. Volunteers do not have to drive their senior if they do not wish to.

Roze Room Hospice of Ventura is looking for a volunteer to help us with a medical records project.  The volunteer will be reviewing files, completing paperwork, entering data in our computer system and filing.  This project is expected to take 1-3 months to complete if a volunteers is able to work 4-8 hours a week.  All work will be completed in our office which is open Mon-Fri from 8am-5pm.  Ideally the volunteer will be a high school or college student as there is some lifting and bending involved.

Tutor one or two elementary students for 1-2 hours each week. Centers are open Mon. – Thu. 3:00 – 5:00pm.

Site supervisor will be a liaison between parents and teachers. Able to tutor when short of volunteers.

Studio Channel Islands’s Internship program is a unique learning opportunity unlike any other. Gain hands on experience in all areas of the gallery as well as events and programs. You will assistance with various staff and perform tasks that allow the gallery to function on a daily basis. The ideal candidate should have a love for the arts and a flexible schedule.

Preferred skills but not required

Proficient with Microsoft Office products, especially Excel and Word.

Daily Gallery Tasks

Be the face of the gallery by maintaining our front desk. This includes greeting guests, answering the phone and transferring calls, and answering any questions guests may have about the art center.

Assist gallery staff in planning events, including gallery receptions and special events, education programs, and events at the Art Studios. While it is not required to attend every event, we strongly recommend that interns attend in order to gain experience and increase your professional network.

During your internship

During your internship you will spend time with every staff member to learn what they do and how they contribute to this organization. You will also spend time gallery hosting, which includes greeting customers and answer the phone.

You are also responsible for Social Media Updating

Experience you will gain: cash handling & sales, visual merchandising, gallery maintenance, installation, policy & artist contracts, committee experience, learning how to put together a budget, event planning, social media marketing and so much more!

Ending Project

Required: To complete your internship you are required to do an ending project.

This is a project should encompass and pursue what you are most interested in whether it is event planning or social media development, it really can be anything, use your past experience and creativity. It is important to not choose your project right away, spend some time getting to know how this origination works first. Once you come up with an idea, talk to a staff member. You will need to present a proposal to be approved by our Executive Director. You are allowed to team up with another intern to do a group ending project, if both of your interests in projects are similar or compatible. Staff members will be here to help you along the way.

Docents are a select group of high-level volunteers responsible for assisting the Studio Channel Islands Art Center (SCIAC) staff in the Blackboard Gallery. This unpaid volunteer position plays a significant role that allows the gallery to properly function from gallery events to daily galley sittings. These dedicated individuals will have the unique opportunity to gain exposure to the mechanisms of a professional art gallery as well as contribute valuable visitor services to a nonprofit organization.

SPARC and our animals rely heavily on the help of people such as you.  As a volunteer we invite you to participate in the regular routine of animal care-feeding, cleaning, grooming, walking and so on.  Spending time socializing with the animals is particularly important as it gets our animals used to people and helps make them more adoptable.

Drivers are needed to help deliver meals in Moorpark to elderly homebound residents as part of the Senior Nutrition Program. Help delivering meals is needed between 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. We are currently seeking substitute drivers. Monday through Friday, the Active Adult Center kitchen staff and volunteers prepare a first round of hot meals for delivery to frail, homebound Moorpark seniors.

Rancho Camulos Museum is seeking Tour docents to share the rich history of Rancho Camulos. Tour docents will lead the general public and school children through the rich historic Rancho buildings and grounds. Tour docents will provide interpretive tours to the general public and to school children.

There is no spot in Ventura County, with the exception of Mission San Buenaventura, that has the historic interest and glamour that Rancho Camulos possess. Volunteers are needed for Special Events throughout the year at Rancho Camulos Museum.

Position Summary: This is a volunteer position at Ventura County Animal Services. We are an open admission municipal animal shelter, which achieved a no kill status in 2014. We are looking for passionate and self-motivated volunteers to help educate the public about animal welfare and help our furry friends to find forever homes! Volunteers assist in the care of rabbits while at the shelter and help save rabbit lives through adoptions! They also educate on proper house-rabbit care & assist our adopters in the adoption process and selection of rabbits best suited to their home. The Ventura County Animal Services Pet Pantry is open every Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Camarillo Shelter and 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Simi Valley Shelter. During the Pet Pantry hours volunteers will give food and (if available) supplies to owners struggling to feed their pets. Volunteer duties include: * Bring in and Sort Donations * Bag Pet Food for Distribution  and more.

Rancho Camulos is the only Mexican land grant rancho in California that is open to the public and still preserved in its original rural environment. The site contains 15 historic structures and is Ventura County's only National Historic Landmark. Rancho Camulos is looking for Docent Volunteers. Docents will lead tours for families and school children. 

Non-Advocate Volunteer: - Comes into contact with children or confidential information - Acts as a representative or speaker on behalf of the program.

Level III Non-Advocate Volunteer - Does not come into contact with children or confidential information (non-office volunteer) - Assists with monthly newsletter, mailings, fundraisings, etc. - May work on onetime events

We are constantly rescuing dogs from shelters and need volunteers to drive them from the shelter to their new foster homes. This is a very rewarding experience as you get to see first hand how happy a dog can be once they are rescued from a shelter.

The Boys & Girls Club is always looking for volunteers that can assist our members with homework, as well as additional educational skills. Tutors are needed at all three club sites, as well as our after-school programs in El Rio and Port Hueneme year round.

Our clubs are used by over 200 to 300 youth DAILY, and our equipment and facilities get extreme use by active kids. Volunteering your time reduces our cost and allows us to utilize funding for youth programs and activities.

BGCOP offers undergraduate and graduate-level internships at our three main clubhouses. Interns will be eligible for academic credit; however, internships are unpaid. Interns are expected to complete a minimum of 60 hours during their tenure. Opportunities are available in our various departments including: Education, Marketing, Resource Development, Technology, Athletics and Programming. Applicants must provide a résumé and undergo a background check as volunteers. Placements are made on a rolling basis throughout the year, subject to availability and need.

Volunteers in this arena work on special events and fundraising for the Club. Time is flexible and is usually evenings and weekends. There are monthly meetings to coordinate efforts, and you control how much time you spend by what you sign up for. Options include: annual auction, community events, golf tournament, fundraising and grant writing

Sports and recreational activities are proven to keep kids in good physical shape, help social interaction, boost energy, keep them out of trouble, and encourage discipline and sportsmanship. You can help make sure that every child in our community has a chance to participate in these great activities. We need coaches and officials for cheerleading, dance, flag football, basketball, baseball, volleyball, boxing, weight training, soccer and track. Practices are held weeknights and game days are held on Saturdays.

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme has 14 club sites located at schools in the Rio and Ocean View School District in Oxnard. We are in need of volunteers to help our dedicated staff provide Art, music, sports, theater, admin support and filling, and homework help to our members. Tot Soccer: This challenging program for children ages three to six is an instructional soccer program. It is not a competitive league, rather it teaches soccer skills, strategy, and athletic techniques. The instructor utilizes volunteers to help run drills, plays, and teach the game of soccer.

Kindergarten Crash Course: Volunteers assist our instructor with this Summer program for children who are preparing to enter Kindergarten. The program is designed to introduce children to the alphabet and numbers, craft projects, story time, free play, and other skills that will assist them when they enter Kindergarten in the Fall.

Arts & Crafts Fairs: These events offer people who hand-craft items the opportunity to sell their crafts to the public. Volunteers help with a craft booth for children, games and moonbounces, and other activities to keep children busy while their parents shop. Additionally, they help vendors, especially the disabled or senior vendors carry their merchandise to and from their booth or car during set up and clean up.

Alternative Recreation Programs: The District offers classes, programs, field trips, and independent living skills for teens and adults with disabilities. Volunteers assist our staff with these programs, helping with passing out materials, as chaperones and more.

No experience necessary. We will train you. Volunteers may help in the office with clerical duties such as computer data entry, filing, packet preparation, photocopying and more. Help coaches or instructors with teaching the fundamental of sports to children. Typical sports programs include soccer, basketball, t-ball, etc. These are not leagues, but recreational programs to teach fundamental skills.

Master's Level Field Placement Trainees

Placement opportunities in Santa Paula, Thousand Oaks and Oxnard.  Please submit resume with cover letter indicating term of field practicum placement.  Bilingual Spanish speaking preferred.  MFT and MSW field practicum student trainees provide individual, group and family counseling to youth and their parents in our service locations.  Must be enrolled in Practicum as part of a Master's Program.  Minimum commitment on site is 10 hours per week.  This is a volunteer opportunity and not a paid position. Youth Probation Programs

Volunteers needed to assist with weekly Diversion Classes for youth.  Classes are ordered for first time offenders and deal with topics related to offense.  Volunteers will work at registration tables, set-up referral table and, be trained to conduct PowerPoint presentations to youth and parents referred by Ventura County Probation Agency.  Topics at both locations are: Substance Abuse, Violence Prevention, Property Crimes, Graffiti Vandalism.  Each youth must be accompanied by parent or guardian.  Class is educational in nature.

Youth Development Volunteer Opportunity:

Interface offers various youth development activities to youth engaged in our runaway and homeless youth services.  Some of the activities currently offered are youth council and life skill classes.  Volunteers are currently needed to lead positive youth development activities.  Youth development activities include leadership skill building, educational workshops, and recreational activities.  If you have a talent or a skill that you would like to share with area youth please contact our program.

Santa Paula Meals on Wheels is looking for volunteer drivers. Volunteers are needed 1 hour, one day per week. Volunteers will pick up 6 to 12 meals from preparation site and deliver to individual residences. Volunteers must provide their own insured vehicle and be able to walk up to the residence entrance. Two drivers are needed for Tuesdays and two drivers needed for Wednesdays.
