Our Proactive volunteers make “check-in” phone calls to our hospice patients and their family members.  

You can work from your dorm room, apartment, home, or the VITAS office. You’ll call patients at home, asking how they are doing, checking on needed supplies, listening, and identifying any service concerns.  

VITAS provides free volunteer orientation to help you learn the skills required to be an outstanding volunteer caller. Volunteering can strengthen your resume for post-college job interviews and careers.

Adult Day Care Center - 2-4 hours, Monday-Friday. Responsibilities may include arts and crafts, decorating, leading discussions, gardening, admin, working with seniors during their activities.

The Senior Concerns’ Meals On Wheels program ensures homebound seniors get to eat nutritious, freshly prepared meals by delivering meals to their doorstep. More than 85 community volunteers bring close to 30,000 nutritionally balanced hot lunches and light meals to seniors in Thousand Oaks and Newbury Park 365 days a year.

In addition to the delicious food, prepared in the kitchens of Los Robles Hospital and Medical Center in accordance with nutritional dietary guidelines, Meals On Wheels’ volunteers deliver holiday gifts and surprises, as well as daily smiles and friendly conversation to seniors.

Bargain Boutique and Thrift Store - 3 hours, Monday-Saturday. Volunteers sort merchandise, organize displays, assist customers, answer the phone, use the cash register, and any other general retail tasks.

A terminally ill patient’s sense of isolation is often made worse by the lack of comforting human touch. Muscles may be contracted and stiff. Patients may spend their days immobile in a recliner or bed. Knowledgeable massage therapists can offer compassionate touch, relaxation, a sense of well-being and emotional health.

For the volunteer, getting to know someone at the end of life is a gift in itself. All VITAS volunteers receive orientation in end-of-life care. VITAS massage-therapy volunteers must have a current massage license. This is a great opportunity for you to give back to the community. VITAS HEALTHCARE LOS ANGELES/VENTURA is a 5 Star Level (We Honor Veterans) Hospice for Veterans!

VITAS wants to enlist your services to care for terminally ill veterans living at home and in nursing homes, assisted living communities and medical centers. VITAS Veteran Volunteers may or may not be U.S. military veterans themselves.

They are trained to meet the specific needs of terminally ill veterans living in their own homes, nursing homes, assisted living communities and veterans’ medical centers. Our Veteran Volunteers visit terminally ill veterans; drive and/or accompany a veteran to appointments, shopping and other events; help a veteran apply for benefits or learn about available assistance; help replace lost or stolen military medals by contacting appropriate agencies; listen to life stories or record or videotape a veteran’s reminiscences; telephone veterans to ask how they are doing; attend or help plan activities celebrating Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day; educate veteran’s groups about hospice services by speaking at their meetings. Volunteer orientation teaches the skills required to be a hospice volunteer.

VITAS Veteran Volunteers are further trained to meet specific end-of-life needs of veterans to improve their quality of life. Time and dates are ongoing and flexible. Orientation and training to be a VITAS Veteran Volunteer is free. Veterans enjoy receiving visitors—people who will listen to their fading memories and reminiscences. Some veterans need transportation to appointments, shopping and other events. Others may need help applying for benefits or researching other kinds of assistance. Your visits leave behind memories of you and your pet, and rekindle thoughts of other pets. Pet visits can sometimes reach a patient when no one else can. Our Paw PalsSM brightens the day for everyone when they visit. All kinds of pets are invited to join VITAS’ Paw Pals Club. Paw PalsSM must be well-groomed, at least one- year old, and have up-to-date health records.

Pampering can include: polishing and buffing nails; gentle shampoo, set and style; haircut; helping with makeup. Patients have very sensitive skin therefore, no curlers/curling irons or chemicals will be used. A current Cosmetology License is required.

We're currently looking for volunteers to help at our office to not only help prepare for our upcoming events, but also to help with our clientele. Someone who is Retired is preferable, that would love to dedicate their extra time to a wonderful cause!

* Someone who can help us run our holiday gift wrapping spot(s) in Westlake Village, possibly Camarillo. 

* A Resource Specialist (we provide training)

Someone with great communication skills is vital, reliable transportation, knowledge about using computers and the internet. Phone skills a big plus.

The more time you have to get involved the better! Shifts are minimum of 2 hours. But we are looking for someone available at least 4 hours/day, 5 days a week. Early-Stage Social Engagement Leaders plan, implement and assure positive experiences for people living with memory loss and their care partners during social engagement activities and events. As leaders, volunteers provide hospitality, support and volunteer oversight at social engagement events. 

These volunteers consult with staff and early-stage advisors to schedule early-stage engagement activities, secure event logistics, assure group safety, and coordinate other volunteers. 

The Association is seeking compassionate and motivated volunteers to engage people living with dementia. We seek applicants who can create and maintain a safe environment where participants' thoughts and feelings are valued and group members treated with fairness, equity and respect. The Alzheimer's Association will call you for an interview and provide online and self-study materials to support your learning in this volunteer role. Your reward will be enhancing your knowledge of this cause, perfecting your public speaking techniques, and knowing that you serve your local community and the people you care about.

Our network of Community Educator volunteers are trained to deliver our core education programs. The Alzheimer's Association guides each volunteer through four modules of training, including online training, class observation, and co-teaching with an experienced volunteer or staff member. Once the volunteer is trained, they will be asked to teach classes for any community organization that requests a presentation during a time that the volunteer is available. 

Our Community Educator volunteers allow us to educate the public on the basics of Alzheimer's and other dementias. This raises awareness of the disease and how it affects members of our community.

Are you looking to get involved in your community? The Westminster Free Clinic is looking for volunteers to support our weekly food distribution. After operating in Thousand Oaks for the last 20 years and serving over 10,000 people annually, Westminster Free Clinic has opened a new location in Oxnard to serve the uninsured of west county.

We operate homeless shelters in Anaheim, Orange, Santa Ana, and Costa Mesa and are looking for volunteers to come out and provide a meal. Lunch / Dinner is served daily at 12:00 pm and 5:00 pm. Arrival time is 20 minutes in advance to set up.

CAREGIVERS is currently looking for Adult Team Leaders that are willing to mentor and direct a team of about 2-3 high school students with light household chores for frail and homebound seniors.

As an adult team leader you will go out once a week on a designated date and time for about 45 min - 1 hr. At the senior's home, you will be supervising the students while they help with light housekeeping and yardword.

It is the perfect opportunity to help seniors in our community and serve as a mentor for student volunteers.

Ventura Land Trust owns almost 30 acres in the Ventura River, and manages close to 100 acres total, including the beautiful Ventura River Estuary. Once known locally as the "Hobo Jungle", the Estuary is an extremely important coastal wetland containing an estimated 600 species of plants and providing habitat for thousands of shorebirds, fish, and other animals. Since receiving our Willoughby Preserve in 2012, VLT and our partners have removed 2 million pounds of trash from this sensitive natural area. We generally host volunteer cleanups and restoration events on the third Saturday of each month, and hundreds of people join us throughout the year to lend a hand.

Facilitator lead monthly meetings for family caregivers, adult children, spouses, or people living with dementia in the community. The groups are established in collaboration with the Alzheimer's Association staff in neutral, accessible and safe locations.

The Association is seeking empathic, passionate and effective listeners with a demonstrated commitment to participants' needs to commit to a 1-year term delivering a monthly group in Spanish. We seek applicants who can create and maintain a safe environment and respect the group process allowing all members to share. The Alzheimer's Association will call you for an interview and provide online and self-study materials to support your learning in this volunteer role. Your reward will be enhancing your knowledge of this cause, perfecting your public speaking techniques, and knowing that you serve your local community and the people you care about.

Due to the emotional weight of this position, the Association recommends against applying if you are currently caring for someone with Alzheimer's or another dementia; have recently (within the last two years) lost someone to Alzheimer's or another dementia; or are recently diagnosed with Alzheimer's or another dementia. Due to the emotional weight of this position, the Association recommends against applying if you are currently caring for someone with Alzheimer's or another dementia; have recently (within the last two years) lost someone to Alzheimer's or another dementia; or are recently diagnosed with Alzheimer's or another dementia. This is to protect the mental well-being of the volunteer as well as the Support Group participants. 

The Longest Day is the day with the most light (June 20, Summer Solstice) and it's the day that we fight the darkness that is Alzheimer's disease. This is the Alzheimer's Association's Do It Yourself (DIY) styled fundraiser where people participate through and activity of their choice. People have raised money through bowling, by having dinner parties, hosting golf tournaments, having lemonade stands and everything in between - As long as there is a fundraising aspect to the event it counts. 

We are looking for people to join our committee and help us bring in as many participants as possible. The committee meets once a month (usually the first Thursday) for about an hour and a half and then any time required outside of that meeting will be you recruiting people for The Longest Day and attending the occasional event (~1 a quarter). CEDC is seeking volunteers to help facilitate CEDC’s afterschool program! Homework Club is offered at several of CEDC's affordable housing properties throughout the county, and offer free tutoring and mentorship to the children living in these properties. Our Homework Club provides homework assistance, positive role-modeling, and de-stressing and engaging activities to a diverse group of youth, from elementary through high school. Each Homework Club is supervised by a CEDC staff member, but without volunteers, not every student can get the one-on-one assistance that they might need.

Homework Club involves approximately 45 minutes of helping the children with their homework, followed by approximately 45 minutes of an activity of either the volunteer’s or CEDC staff member’s choosing. The activity can be arts and crafts, reading, STEM related activities, games, or any activity of volunteer’s choosing that is fun and engaging for the kids.

Volunteering opportunities are offered at various CEDC properties in Ventura and Oxnard. Homework Club is a recurring event, taking place every Monday-Thursday from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Hours are flexible if you must arrive later. If interested, we can work together to determine which Homework Club site works best for you.

A registered VITAS Paw Pals visitor can offer comfort, bring back memories, encourage activity and provide unconditional love to VITAS patients. Your visits leave behind memories of you and your pet, and rekindle thoughts of other pets. 

Pet visits can sometimes reach a patient when no one else can. Our Paw Pals brightens the day for everyone when they visit.

VITAS wants to enlist your services to care for terminally ill veterans living at home and in nursing homes, assisted living communities and medical centers. 

VITAS Veteran Volunteers may or may not be U.S. military veterans themselves. They are trained to meet the specific needs of terminally ill veterans living in their own homes, nursing homes, assisted living communities and veterans’ medical centers. 

Our Veteran Volunteers visit terminally ill veterans; drive and/or accompany a veteran to appointments, shopping and other events; help a veteran apply for benefits or learn about available assistance; help replace lost or stolen military medals by contacting appropriate agencies; listen to life stories or record or videotape a veteran’s reminiscences; telephone veterans to ask how they are doing; attend or help plan activities celebrating Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day; educate veteran’s groups about hospice services by speaking at their meetings.

Volunteer orientation teaches the skills required to be a hospice volunteer. VITAS Veteran Volunteers are further trained to meet specific end-of-life needs of veterans to improve their quality of life. Time and dates are ongoing and flexible. Diversity Collective Ventura County in partnership with Ventura County Public Health, have recently launched our HIV/AIDS Education and Prevention programs. This includes free anonymous and confidential HIV Rapid Testing twice a month at our Community Resource Center located at 2471 Portola Rd, suite 100 in Ventura. The program assistant would help coordinate testing events and help with outreach activities. There are opportunities to assist in program development as our program is continuously evolving and growing. 

Special Events Volunteers

We are looking for outgoing responsible and dependable volunteers (ages 21 and up) who perhaps can commit to a weekly basis.  Create cool ways for guests to meet fellow attendees and to encourage museum membership.  Minimum time commitment is 2-4 hours per event.  The volunteers will help a staff member set-up and clean-up the table display, interact with the public, and hand-out promotional materials.  This position requires weekend availability, some standing, and being outdoors or indoors depending on the event.

The CAM Studio Gallery the Carnegie Art Museum's studio and gallery, which is adjacent to the main building, is a studio exhibit space which features works from the Museum's permanent collection and is a working studio space for a guest Artist in Residence who keeps an open studio for visitors to interact and ask questions.

The CAM Studio Gallery Attendants are expected to serve as both hosts and educators, welcoming visitors of all ages and enriching their gallery experience.  They are relied upon to monitor the safety of the art displayed, record visitor stats and be courteous, friendly, and helpful to visitors.  Because this venue is still fairly new the visitor traffic is not as heavy as in the main building, but we always have projects on hand for volunteers to help with.  A six month commitment is required of all volunteers for this position.  

Volunteers are currently needed on a weekly basis for the following days:

Thursdays- 11:00am-2:00pm or 2:00pm-5:00pm

Fridays- 11:00am-2:00pm or 2:00pm-5:00pm

Saturdays- 11:00am-2:00pm and 2:00pm-5:00pm

Sundays- 1:00am-5:00pm  

Your help will be much needed in the coming months - especially in the spring! 

Over the next couple of weeks the OVLC staff will be assessing the damage to our preserves due to the Thomas Fire and we will be creating a plan of what will be needed for the recovery efforts. Currently, the preserves remain closed until further notice for the safety of our community.

Throughout the year, OVLC hosts various events, ranging from small gatherings to large events like our annual member celebration and Telluride Mountainfilm On Tour. The success of each event depends on unique talents from our volunteers, before, during and after the event.

Come help us remove crayfish from Tapia State Park! Crayfish are a non-native species to California, and they're considered invasive because they cause quite a bit of damage to the aquatic ecosystems. They prey on native species, reduce water quality, and cause problems with creek bed erosion. We need your help in trapping and removing the crayfish as well as picking up trash along the stream.

This event is great fun for volunteers of all ages! Volunteers 12 years or younger must be accompanied by an adult. Volunteers under the age of 18 must bring the Parental Consent Form with a parent or guardian's signature if the parent or guardian is not attending.

Registration is free, but required. Registered volunteers will receive an email confirmation with more details.

Give an Hour's mission is to develop national networks of volunteer professionals capable of responding to both acute and chronic conditions that arise within our society. Since 2005 we have focused on providing free and confidential mental health care to those who serve, our veterans, and their families. We have since expanded our efforts to address the mental health needs of other populations. Through the generosity, compassion, and expertise of Give an Hour's skilled volunteers, we are able to increase the likelihood that those in need receive the support and care they deserve.

We have recently opened Give an Hour California to expand our work in California, and have an office in Ventura County.  We are looking for outreach volunteers to help us grow our provider network and gather support for our effort.

CAREGIVERS often receives requests for respite, an arrangement which provides a regular planned interval of relief for a caregiver (usually an elderly spouse or adult child).. A volunteer would provide visiting so that the caregiver may get some things done (in or out of the home) and not worry about their loved one being alone.

Caring volunteers are always needed to drive seniors to periodic Dr. appts locally. Volunteers use their own car.

CAREGIVERS is looking for reliable, compassionate volunteers who can sign up to donate 2-4 hours, once a week, to a homebound senior in their city. We have a special need for volunteers in the Santa Paula area. Volunteers may assist with "neighborly" tasks such as providing a ride to a Dr. or grocery store, or helping out in the home with a bit of light housekeeping, or paperwork. Let us know what you enjoy doing so that we can match you with the right senior. The idea is for you to become friends. Volunteers do not have to drive their senior if they do not wish to.

Roze Room Hospice of Ventura is looking for a volunteer to help us with a medical records project.  The volunteer will be reviewing files, completing paperwork, entering data in our computer system and filing.  This project is expected to take 1-3 months to complete if a volunteers is able to work 4-8 hours a week.  All work will be completed in our office which is open Mon-Fri from 8am-5pm.  Ideally the volunteer will be a high school or college student as there is some lifting and bending involved.

Studio Channel Islands’s Internship program is a unique learning opportunity unlike any other. Gain hands on experience in all areas of the gallery as well as events and programs. You will assistance with various staff and perform tasks that allow the gallery to function on a daily basis. The ideal candidate should have a love for the arts and a flexible schedule.

Daily Gallery Tasks

Be the face of the gallery by maintaining our front desk. This includes greeting guests, answering the phone and transferring calls, and answering any questions guests may have about the art center.

Assist gallery staff in planning events, including gallery receptions and special events, education programs, and events at the Art Studios. While it is not required to attend every event, we strongly recommend that interns attend in order to gain experience and increase your professional network.

During your internship

During your internship you will spend time with every staff member to learn what they do and how they contribute to this organization. You will also spend time gallery hosting, which includes greeting customers and answer the phone.

You are also responsible for Social Media Updating

Experience you will gain: cash handling & sales, visual merchandising, gallery maintenance, installation, policy & artist contracts, committee experience, learning how to put together a budget, event planning, social media marketing and so much more!

Ending Project

Required: To complete your internship you are required to do an ending project.

This is a project should encompass and pursue what you are most interested in whether it is event planning or social media development, it really can be anything, use your past experience and creativity. It is important to not choose your project right away, spend some time getting to know how this origination works first. Once you come up with an idea, talk to a staff member. You will need to present a proposal to be approved by our Executive Director. You are allowed to team up with another intern to do a group ending project, if both of your interests in projects are similar or compatible. Staff members will be here to help you along the way.

Docents are a select group of high-level volunteers responsible for assisting the Studio Channel Islands Art Center (SCIAC) staff in the Blackboard Gallery. This unpaid volunteer position plays a significant role that allows the gallery to properly function from gallery events to daily galley sittings. These dedicated individuals will have the unique opportunity to gain exposure to the mechanisms of a professional art gallery as well as contribute valuable visitor services to a nonprofit organization.

Volunteers greet every guest coming into the Museum and are responsible for initiating an enjoyable visit, taking in entrance fees, signing up memberships, and support the sales of the Museum store.  Hands-on training is provided.

To facilitate the growing need for Shop Ahoy's service as a volunteer, non-profit organization, we need and welcome your support! We need your help by arriving at Vons to pick up the orders and deliver them to each client. Meeting at your local Vons on a specific day of the week to shop each order individually for clients who wish to live independently and stay in their homes.
