Description

Project: A Place Called Home "Family Resource Depot"

PLEASE NOTE: Due to APCH campus capacity restrictions and COVID-19 safety practices, participation in this project will not be finalized until the APCH Volunteer team responds to your form submission by contacting you directly to confirm project details. Thank you!

A Place Called Home (APCH) "Family Resource Depot" Overview: A Place Called Home has served South Central youth and families with its life-changing programs for more than 27 years. During these uncertain times, one thing is for sure: APCH is still here, resolved to serve our community in the midst of this crisis and beyond. In the face of the coronavirus emergency, APCH quickly mobilized to respond to urgent and ongoing needs of youth and families that were already struggling with poverty.

Since temporarily suspending regular operations on our campus, we launched (in addition to virtual programming, tutoring and mental health counseling): The APCH Family Resource Depot (or FRD) to deliver groceries, household necessities, hygiene products and more to local families in need. Our FRD initiative provides hundreds of families with thousands of pounds of fresh produce and other essentials weekly.

This is where our wonderful APCH volunteers come in!

Project Description: Volunteers sort and pack fresh produce and canned food into bags, which we then load into trucks for delivery to APCH families. Volunteers also unload and unpack boxes of food and supply deliveries. The APCH team guides volunteers throughout the morning. This is an active day that includes lifting, bending and long periods of standing. Please let the APCH team know if there is anything we can do to make the project more comfortable for you.

APCH will adjust its practices and protocols as guidelines, best practices and health orders are revised.

  • Vaccination & Booster Requirement

Effective January 11, 2022, APCH requires all volunteers and visitors who are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine to be fully vaccinated with a COVID-19 vaccine series and to submit proof to APCH of the following before entering APCH premises:

  • having received both doses in a two-dose series vaccine (such as the Moderna or Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines) OR a single-dose vaccine (such as the J&J/Janssen COVID-19 vaccine)

  • AND a booster dose (required for all eligible individuals within 30 days of their date of eligibility)

  • the date of eligibility for individuals who've received the Moderna or Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is 5 months after their second dose

  • the date of eligibility for individuals who've received the J&J/Janssen vaccine is 2 months after their single dose

  • Screening Requirements

APCH conducts the following with individuals upon their arrival to the APCH campus:

  • temperature check to screen for fever

  • APCH Health Screening (linked here) to review:

    • travel: whether the individual has traveled domestically or internationally within the past 10 days, and if so, whether the individual was fully vaccinated for 2 weeks prior to traveling

  • COVID-19 nasal swab PCR test (PROVIDED BY APCH):
    • Individuals must self administer the test at APCH before they begin their volunteer project/role (at least one time per week for repeat or weekly volunteers)
    • APCH’s test is NOT a rapid test; it is conducted in case of a need for contact tracing
