All participants must be able to walk, bend and lift boxes of product weighing up to 35 pounds without assistance. All volunteers are required to sign-up on-line via this link, sign-in when they arrive to the activity, and check-out when they leave the activity. Check in with the Community Engagement Team in the lobby of the 4156-building. Look for the double glass doors under the orange awning. If you are arriving for a night shift, please check-in at the 4183 building which is across the street or to your left as you turn right onto Southbank Road. Attire: Closed toed shoes are a must! Layered casual modest clothing. Anyone wearing flip flops or other inappropriate shoes will not be able to participate. Parking Information: Carpooling greatly encouraged! Free public parking. Please do not park in front of the Channel Islands Roofing or Prestige Auto buildings. Park in any open spaces directly in front of Food Share or on the sides of Food Share. Please do not park in the back of the 4156 or 4183 Food Share buildings. Parking: NO STREET PARKING! YOU WILL BE TOWED OR TICKETED OR BOTH. Park in any open spaces directly behind building. The building is a temporary space for Food Share. Best suited for those volunteers who can: 1) Safely do repetitive lifting, twisting, and bending. 2) Safely lift & carry filled boxes weighing less than ten pounds and up to thirty-five pounds. (Be aware that at no time will you be asked or required to lift any weight beyond your known or perceived strength levels and capabilities.) 3) Stand for 2-2.5 hours. Appropriate suggested attire: Layered casual modest clothing. Closed toed shoes are a must! Anyone wearing flip flops or other inappropriate shoes will not be able to participate. Wearing any type of clothing, shoes or jewelry that may increase the risk of accident or injury on the job is restricted. Masks indoors is required. Ventura County clients in need of food assistance. What time are the clients arriving? They start lining up at 10am. What time does the distribution start? 2:00PM (earlier if we are ready to launch). What will you be doing? Depending on your shift time: 12:30pm-4:00pm shift will help register clients name, address, zip, number in household, answering one question, and placing a tag/ticket onto windshield. Be able to stand for three-four hours. Please hydrate before arriving. 1:30-4pm shift will help us run a drive through pop-up food pantry at College Park. You will be placing boxes of food into trunks of cars (Produce boxes weigh 12-13 lb. & Food Share food box is15lb), traffic control (telling cars when they need to stop and when they can leave), and breakdown at this site. Be able to stand for three-four hours. Please hydrate before arriving. When does this take place? Every Wednesday year-round Where will this opportunity take place? College Park, 3250 South Rose Ave., Oxnard, CA 93033 What is the volunteer shift time? 12:30-4pm or 1:30pm-4pm (shift will end when food runs out or last client is served) Please be patient while we get things going and conduct the brief on what to do.
