VITAS is looking for caring individuals to share their voice and time as Proactive Caller Volunteers to help terminally ill patients and their families.

If you enjoy talking on the phone and have time to make check-in calls, you may be a perfect ProActive Caller Volunteer.

Our Proactive volunteers make “check-in” phone calls to our hospice patients and their family members.  

You can work from your dorm room, apartment, home, or the VITAS office. You’ll call patients at home, asking how they are doing, checking on needed supplies, listening, and identifying any service concerns.  

VITAS provides free volunteer orientation to help you learn the skills required to be an outstanding volunteer caller. Volunteering can strengthen your resume for post-college job interviews and careers.

VITAS Healthcare® is looking for kind and caring massage therapists to pamper hospice patients living at home, in the hospital or in long term care facilities.

A terminally ill patient’s sense of isolation is often made worse by the lack of comforting human touch. Muscles may be contracted and stiff. Patients may spend their days immobile in a recliner or bed. Knowledgeable massage therapists can offer compassionate touch, relaxation, a sense of well-being and emotional health.

For the volunteer, getting to know someone at the end of life is a gift in itself. All VITAS volunteers receive orientation in end-of-life care. VITAS massage-therapy volunteers must have a current massage license. This is a great opportunity for you to give back to the community. By taking time out of your busy work week you can make the biggest difference in another’s life. VITAS takes pride in its volunteers, and we welcome you to become part of our team.

VITAS HEALTHCARE LOS ANGELES/VENTURA is a 5 Star Level (We Honor Veterans) Hospice for Veterans!

VITAS wants to enlist your services to care for terminally ill veterans living at home and in nursing homes, assisted living communities and medical centers. VITAS Veteran Volunteers may or may not be U.S. military veterans themselves.

They are trained to meet the specific needs of terminally ill veterans living in their own homes, nursing homes, assisted living communities and veterans’ medical centers. Our Veteran Volunteers visit terminally ill veterans; drive and/or accompany a veteran to appointments, shopping and other events; help a veteran apply for benefits or learn about available assistance; help replace lost or stolen military medals by contacting appropriate agencies; listen to life stories or record or videotape a veteran’s reminiscences; telephone veterans to ask how they are doing; attend or help plan activities celebrating Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day; educate veteran’s groups about hospice services by speaking at their meetings. Volunteer orientation teaches the skills required to be a hospice volunteer.

VITAS Veteran Volunteers are further trained to meet specific end-of-life needs of veterans to improve their quality of life. Time and dates are ongoing and flexible. Orientation and training to be a VITAS Veteran Volunteer is free. Veterans enjoy receiving visitors—people who will listen to their fading memories and reminiscences. Some veterans need transportation to appointments, shopping and other events. Others may need help applying for benefits or researching other kinds of assistance. VITAS Veteran Volunteers learn to help.

VITAS invites friendly and well-behaved pets to join the Paw Pals Program, in which animals and their humans learn how to visit patients at the end of their life. A registered VITAS Paw PalsSM visitor can offer comfort, bring back memories, encourage activity and provide unconditional love to VITAS patients.

Your visits leave behind memories of you and your pet, and rekindle thoughts of other pets. Pet visits can sometimes reach a patient when no one else can. Our Paw PalsSM brightens the day for everyone when they visit. All kinds of pets are invited to join VITAS’ Paw Pals Club. Paw PalsSM must be well-groomed, at least one- year old, and have up-to-date health records.

Are you passionate about and experienced in guided imagery? Share your skills and this meaningful relaxation method with hospice patients and their families.

Holistic and complementary therapies like guided imagery help hospice patients and their families embrace quality of life. VITAS® Healthcare is looking for compassionate Guided Imagery volunteers to create calm, peace, and body-mind harmony for patients by combining guided images and relaxing soft background music.

Guided Imagery volunteers not only create an environment to reduce stress, anxiety, and restlessness, but also assist in relief of tension and emotional exhaustion. It’s meaningful work that we could not do without our volunteers.

VITAS Guided Imagery volunteers must have a certificate of completion in Guided Imagery. We provide free volunteer orientation to help you learn about hospice and the patient visit. Volunteering is fulfilling and can also strengthen your resume for post-college job interviews and careers.

Help Provide Clerical Duties in Hospice Office! 

Description:

Administrative volunteers promote hospice care by helping perform clerical assignments in an office setting.  These assignments can include helping process mail outs, filing, data entry, answering phones, restocking supplies, making packets, plus many other tasks. 

VITAS Volunteer orientation is provided free of charge to help you learn the skills required to be an outstanding Office Volunteer. Volunteers are needed between the hours of 8am and 5pm, Monday through Friday.

VITAS Healthcare is looking for kind and caring professional stylists to pamper hospice patients living at home, in the hospital or in long term care facilities. Pampering can include: polishing and buffing nails; gentle shampoo, set and style; haircut; helping with makeup. Patients have very sensitive skin therefore, no curlers/curling irons or chemicals will be used. A current Cosmetology License is required.

VITAS Healthcare® is looking for kind and caring people to help terminally ill patients and their families — just by being there.  Many of our patients live at home with family members or friends who rarely get the opportunity to leave the house because they are devoted to caring for their ill loved ones.  Relief care (sitting with a patient while the caregiver takes a break) is one of our biggest volunteer needs.  For caregivers to have the opportunity to run an errand, go see a movie, go to a doctor’s appointment or go on an outing can work wonders to renew their energy and better equip them for the responsibilities of care-giving.   VITAS Volunteer orientation is provided free of charge to help you learn the skills required to be an outstanding hospice volunteer. Time and dates are ongoing and flexible. We are especially looking for volunteers who would be available during daytime, weekday hours but weekends or evenings are also helpful. Sometimes what a hospice patient needs most is a way to express feelings without talking. By playing or singing their favorite songs or hymns, VITAS music volunteers help patients and families reconnect with feelings and memories that can bring about a sense of peace and happiness.
