Volunteer Blood Donor Ambassadors ensure that blood donors have a pleasant and fulfilling experience, from when they arrive at a blood drive to when they leave. During a blood drive, whether you’re greeting donors, answering questions, or thanking them for their donation, your courtesy, and professionalism will create a favorable impression that encourages ongoing donor support. 

Why is this role so important?

Every 2 seconds, someone needs blood, and the American Red Cross collects and distributes 40% of our nation's blood supply. There is no substitute for blood that is given in advance by a generous blood donor. Blood donors help patients of all ages: accident and burn victims, new moms with complicated childbirths, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, and those battling cancer.

Qualifications:

Communicate in a professional manner with diverse populations Demonstrate excellent customer service and comfort working with people Manage the reception process by ensuring each donor is warmly greeted and assisted with initial intake according to the appointment priority system Manage the hospitality experience by offering refreshments to donors, thanking them for their contribution, and alerting staff immediately if a donor shows signs of feeling unwell

Requirements

The American Red Cross is looking for folks to help with evacuation shelters for the upcoming wildfire season. All training will be provided. Shelter Service Associates would support the day-to-day activities at a shelter site, including welcoming and registering residents, helping with meal service, distributing cots, blankets, hygiene supplies, and providing information and other assistance within a shelter.

This is a virtual role that supports our Regional Disaster department.

Duty Officers deploy our Disaster Action Team (DAT) members to local disasters (i.e., home fires) to assist those in need.

Responsibilities include:

Dispatch local Disaster Action Team (DAT) members and monitor the response to ensure appropriate resources are made available to help those affected. Works virtually with on-scene DAT leadership to support the response and provide technical guidance. Activate Disaster Health Services, Disaster Mental Health, and Disaster Spiritual Care, Public Affairs when requested. Documents incoming disaster notification and creates & verifies events in RC Respond. May be required to monitor activity across multiple DAT responses. Notify Chapter staff of significant events, and contribute to an Initial Incident Report when appropriate.

The impact of a disaster can be devastating, and the American Red Cross is there to help respond.
But did you know, it’s also part of our mission to help people prepare? As a Preparedness
Presenter you can help educate individuals, youth, families, and communities on actions to reduce the
risk of a disaster, prepare to respond effectively and cope with disasters when they happen.

Our training provides age-appropriate information, so as a presenter you can choose whether to work with youth and/or adults by learning how to virtually present the following training modules:

Be Red Cross Ready: Build confidence and learn simple steps you can take now to help prepare and protect your family. Learn the essentials of disaster preparedness: Get a Kit, Make a Plan, Be Informed. Each presentation is tailored to the types of disasters relevant to the local area (ex: home fire, wildfire, earthquake) and can be adjusted based on length and audience The Pillowcase Project: Help kids age 8-11 (grade 3-5) prepare for emergencies. Students will learn earthquake and home fire preparedness and safety skills, as well as how to stay calm during stressful situations. Red Cross presenters use a 'Learn, Practice, Share’ framework to encourage students to help prepare their family and community for emergencies after the presentation. Prepare with Pedro: This new program for kids age 5-7 (K-2nd grade) uses the story of Pedro the Penguin to teach students how to prepare for and take action during emergencies such as home fires and wildfires.

Responsibilities Can Include:

Community outreach to find organizations, schools, or businesses who are interested in have a presentation for their members Helping to refine and edit training materials Plan for preparedness programming through participation in meetings, projects, and local preparedness activities

This virtual role provides follow-up and recovery planning services for individuals and households following home fires or disasters, including referrals. Help Service Members by Becoming a Red Cross Mental Health Volunteer!

If you are a Clinically Licensed Behavioral Health Practitioner, we have an incredible volunteer opportunity and upcoming training that allows mental health professionals to make a difference in their military community!

The Red Cross teaches resiliency skills through three impactful programs—Coping with Deployments, Reconnection Workshops, and Mind-Body Workshops. The programs provide tools to address the challenges and stress of military life and reintegration with family and community.

All resiliency programs are confidential and led by licensed mental health professionals with additional Red Cross training.

Eligibility Requirement: Master’s level or higher mental health professional with independent, clinical and unencumbered license in one of the following disciplines: Psychiatry, Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, School Counseling/Psychology; Nursing (APN or CS in Mental Health area; RN’s who are board certified in Psy/MH).

Note: To be eligible, you must have an independent license and not be under clinical supervision.
