This is a course designed to deepen our understanding of what compassion is and why it might be beneficial to us and the world around us. We will explore how we can transform our experience and our reactions to life’s circumstances and the people around us. In this way it is possible to change our lives, and bring about change in the world.
The 10-week course will offer video presentations from such masters and teachers as His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Sogyal Rinpoche, Patrick Gaffney, Mathieu Ricard, Jetsun Khandro Rinpoche, Pema Chödrön, Sharon Salzburg, Kristen Neff, Barbara Frederickson, and Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish. The weekly sessions also include time for interactive and contemplative activities, discussions, clarifications, plus meditation and compassion practices.
All interested persons are welcome to participate in the course. You need not be a member of the Rigpa sangha or even a Buddhist. The techniques, skills and knowledge we will learn in this course can be used to enhance each of our own beliefs (be they spiritual, religious or secular). As the Dalai Lama says: “Don’t try to use what you learn from Buddhism to be a Buddhist; use it to be a better whatever-you-already-are.”
