Who We Are
Mission: To bring alive the romance and history of Spanish California, offering visitors an immersive experience into the state’s cultural heritage.
Our museum consists of historic buildings and grounds that we have opened to educate the public by providing interpretive tours to the general public and to school children. The museum is private and governed by a board of directors. Our docent council staffs the tours and supports the board with fundraising and museum maintenance and restoration.
What We Do
Key Features:
- Historical Significance: Rancho Camulos is recognized as a prime example of an early California rancho in its original rural setting. It was the home of Ygnacio del Valle, a Californio alcalde of the Pueblo de Los Angeles in the 19th century and later elected member of the California State Assembly.
- Architecture: The museum comprises 15 structures, including the Main Adobe, a Fountain, a Chapel, a Bell Structure, and a Winery, all built in the 19th century.
- Educational Programs: The museum offers tours and events that provide insights into the history and culture of the region. It also serves as an educational resource for students and researchers interested in early California history.
