Who We Are

Mission: To strengthen disaster response in America by rescuing and recruiting dogs and partnering them with firefighters and other first responders to find people buried alive in the wreckage of disasters.

The National Disaster Search Dog Foundation (SDF) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1996, dedicated to enhancing disaster response in the United States by rescuing and training dogs and partnering them with firefighters and other first responders.

What We Do

  • Canine Recruitment and Training: SDF rescues dogs from shelters and trains them to become disaster search dogs, preparing them to locate survivors in disaster scenarios.
  • Team Placement: The organization pairs trained dogs with firefighters and first responders, forming search teams ready for deployment during emergencies.
  • Ongoing Support: SDF offers continuous training and support to these teams, ensuring they maintain peak performance and readiness for disaster response.
