Who We Are
It is our mission to bring Conejo Valley Latino voices into important community conversations regarding our school, city and recreation opportunities. We organize and advocate for those not yet ready to speak on their own behalf and seek out opportunities for Latino families to reach their goals through intergenerational, multicultural activities.
Our food recovery and distribution efforts welcome Latinos to participate alongside community members from all backgrounds and walks of life.
Nuestra misión es integrar las voces de la comunidad latina del Valle de Conejo en las conversaciones comunitarias importantes sobre nuestras escuelas, nuestra ciudad y las oportunidades de recreación. Organizamos y defendemos a quienes aún no están listos para hablar por sí mismos y buscamos oportunidades para que las familias latinas alcancen sus metas a través de actividades intergeneracionales y multiculturales.
Nuestras iniciativas de recuperación y distribución de alimentos dan la bienvenida a personas latinas para que participen junto con miembros de la comunidad de todos los orígenes y ámbitos de la vida.
What We Do
Close to half of the food produced in the United States ends up rotting in a landfill or on the ground in fields and orchards. That’s bad for the environment and a shameful waste of resources.
Rescuing food requires a lot of volunteers for sorting, transporting, storing, and distributing and you need equipment and a facility to make it possible.
There are great resources available to food pantries. Support from Food Share of Ventura County and Food Forward are essential to our efforts.
Partnerships are important. We try to be a blessing to other organizations by sharing what we have and helping where we can. They do the same.
We live in a generous community. Individual donations from supporters allow us to supplement grant funds. We use donations to purchase chicken, cheese, milk, and tortillas as our funds allow.
Everyone wants nutritious, fresh foods that their families enjoy.
It’s hard to accept help. Many of the families we serve have never asked for help before the housing shortage, pandemic, inflation, and immigration crises.
Many of our volunteers also accept food because people of all incomes and backgrounds love giving back to their community.
Teens want to be useful. There aren’t enough opportunities for teens to serve their community in engaging, social settings.
Volunteering makes people proud, grateful, and happy. We love being with others, all of us doing something that matters.
