Children's faces brightened as they saw the door being opened. "Miss Hope is here!" the kids exclaimed. Hope had come to lead the children in a weekly Camp Fire USA "Trail" activity. It was a change from the homework-outside playtime, and projects that were provided by the school-age care staff. Here was a guest speaker providing fun and educational activities. This is a perfect opportunity to get experience with working with children, utilizing a national curriculum linked to educational objectives. Volunteers needed to lead kindergarten-second graders, third-fifth graders, and/or sixth-eighth graders in weekly activities. Children will explore the five Camp Fire USA Trails: Trail to Knowing Me; Trail to Family and Community; Trail to Creativity; Trail to the Environment; and Trail to the Future. Camp Fire USA operates four daily school-age care programs: Bard Elementary School serving both Bard & Hueneme Elementary schools in the Hueneme Elementary School District, Rio Plaza School in the Rio Elementary School District, Saticoy Elementary School in the Ventura Unified School District, and Christa McAuliffe School in the Oxnard Elementary School District.
Volunteers will need to be trained in Camp Fire USA curricula. Interest and ability to work with children will be assessed prior to service. Candidates will undergo criminal background check. Need proof of current TB test results. This opportunity is sponsored by: Camp Fire USA Ventura County Council
