Purpose: Camp Laurel’s goal is to empower children, youth and families living with HIV/AIDS. We are launching a new Mentorship LEAF (Life Enhancement and Fellowship) program designed to give youth, 18-21, living with HIV/AIDS, the necessary life skills, resources, support, and guidance to build a successful life path. You will be a role model and support person for your Mentee, as well as help them set and accomplish goals (be that how to apply to college, write a resume, start a bank account, etc.) Mentors will be required to attend a training prior to being paired with a mentee. Mentor Role: • Take the lead in supporting a young adult through an ongoing, one-to-one relationship • Serve as a positive role model and friend • Build the relationship by planning and participating in activities together • Strive for mutual respect • Build self-esteem and motivation • Help set goals and work toward accomplishing them How to apply: In order to be a volunteer for Camp Laurel you need to complete an application, participate in an interview, and submit three references. To get started contact Dana Ruble, Director of Volunteers. Time Commitment: Mentors are asked to commit a minimum of 4 hours a month to work with their Mentee. Minimum Qualifications: • Genuinely interested in youth • 25 years of age or older • Ability to commit to a minimum of 4 hours per month, for a minimum of one year • Available on occasional weekends • Either a licensed, insured, safe driver, or able to use other forms to transportation for self and mentee • Ability to complete required mentor training • Stable, dependable, flexible, and open to new experiences and learning
