    Camarillo Hospice is a "volunteer hospice" dedicated to the enhancing the quality of life for individuals and families facing life-threatening illness and/or dealing with grief by providing care, comfort, and support.

    Description:
    Camarillo Hospice provides Patient and Family Support Services and Bereavement Services programs that include practical and emotional support to those with a chronic and/or life-threatening illness and their families, and caregivers; and bereavement support to individuals dealing with grief as a result of the loss of a loved one. The overall goals of Camarillo Hospice are: (1) to provide chronic and/or terminally ill patients with practical and emotional support to help them live even while they are dying; (2) to provide patients, their families and caregivers, and the community at large with information regarding death and dying; (3) to provide the families and caregivers of the chronic and/or terminally ill with respite care and emotional support to ease their stress and enhance their ability to cope; (4) to assess and monitor risk levels for individuals and the family unit and provide counseling support; (5) to refer and encourage patients and family members to access and utilize existing support systems and create additional sources of support; and (6) to counsel the grief-stricken and provide a compatible, cohesive, supportive environment for processing loss and grief.

    Camarillo Hospice provides the following services to the community:

    • Patient and Family Support Services: volunteer support for those who have a life-threatening illness and their family members and caregivers.
    • Bereavement Support and Education: individual and family counseling as well as ongoing support groups to facilitate adjustment to the loss of a loved one.
    • Volunteer Training and Supervision: an eight-week training course for patient care volunteers, regular in-service programs, and ongoing follow-up support while they work with the terminally ill and bereaved.
    • Outreach and Education: a program designed to educate community members about the benefits of hospice care and the realities of dealing with a life-threatening illness and/or grief, with a focus on death and dying as a natural part of life.

    Camarillo Hospice serves the community-at-large, including seniors, children, families, the disabled, and all those suffering from illness whether it be long-term, degenerative or acute. Our services are not limited to cancer patients or those with a six-month or less prognosis. All of our services are free. We estimate that we will serve over 5,000 people in 2005.


    History:
    Camarillo Hospice was founded in 1978. The principles that guided our very first Board of Directors continue to influence us today. Camarillo Hospice provides a program of emotional and practical support for individuals who have a chronic and/or life threatening illness and are facing the end of their lives, as well as their families. Our status as a volunteer hospice allows us to offer services without regard to the restrictions imposed by insurance companies or Medicare since we do not receive reimbursement from them. All Camarillo Hospice services are provided free of charge.
