Rehab Point Project
Rehab Point Project is an incorporated nonprofit organization that was created to provide access to the ocean and other therapeutic recreational opportunities for people with disabilities.
Description:
We are dedicated to promoting and upgrading Rehab Point Path, a concrete wheelchair-accessible path that leads to the ocean. The path is located at Oxnard Beach Park, 1601 South Harbor Boulevard, Oxnard (between Wooley Road and Channel Islands Boulevard). We also sponsor and organize a yearly picnic that honors seniors and people with disabilities.
History:
Rehab Point Project was incorporated in April 1992. It's founder, Ed Hunt, was a retired senior and military veteran who had survived a stroke that left him paralyzed and dependent on a wheelchair for transportation. Ed loved the ocean and was frustrated because he didn't have access to the area that meant so much to him. He was instrumental in creating the path, now over 900 feet long and complete with benches and picnic tables. He also advocated for social activities for people with disabilities, and he sponsored a yearly picnic honoring them. The organization is volunteer- directed, has bimonthly meetings and is assisted by members of Oxnard City Corps and representatives from other community organizations and businesses.
