Ojai Valley Land Conservancy
The Ojai Valley Land Conservancy is dedicated to working with our community to protect Ojai's views, trails, water and wildlife and provide educational enrichment for people of all ages on our open space nature preserves.
Description:
The Conservancy is a community-based, nonprofit group of more than 1,200 private citizens and landowners working for the common goal of protecting and restoring natural open spaces in the Ojai Valley for the benefit of future generations. A small staff of 6 under the direction of our board of directors works tirelessly to identify lands and funding to protect them. We depend heavily upon the generosity of our volunteers and donors to support our work. Donors help by allowing us to continue to find public funding for acquistion and restoration of land. We are able to leverage approximately $10 in public grant monies for every private dollar raised. Volunteers help us to maintain the properties, communicate with our constituency, and to have events for members.
History:
The Ojai Valley Land Conservancy was formed in 1987 by a small grassroots group of local people who wanted to protect Ojai from further development in order to preserve the small village community surrounded by nature. Our first nature preserve was donated soon after, and throughout the years we have grown to preserve nearly 2,000 acres in the Ojai Valley, primarily focused on the protection of the Ventura River Watershed.
