    Camp Fire USA builds caring, confident youth and future leaders

    Description:
    Camp Fire USA programs are designed to produce specific outcomes including the promotion of environmental awareness; the development of leadership; respect for diversity and promotion of inclusiveness; encouragement of healthy lifestyles; promotion of personal and social responsibility; development of informed decision-making skills; the awakening of individual potential; and the inspiration of vision, commitment and action.

    Camp Fire USA Ventura County Council serves children in kindergarten through high school throughout Ventura County. Major services include:

    ·Self Reliance programs presented as an enrichment opportunity for elementary school classrooms;

    ·School-aged Care programs providing daily program/supervision for children in kindergarten through 13 years of age at Bard Elementary School in the Hueneme Elementary School District serving Bard & Hueneme Elementary Schools; Saticoy School in the Ventura Unified School; Christa McAuliffe School in the Oxnard Elementary School District; and Rio Plaza School in the Rio School District.

    ·Community Family Club for family members of all ages.

    History:
    Camp Fire USA was founded in 1910 as the first nonsectarian organization for girls in the United States. In 1975, membership was expanded to include boys. Camp Fire USA began in Ventura County in 1913 with the traditional programs of clubs and camping. In 1985 a school age care program was started at three elementary schools in the Hueneme School District. In 1988 the program expanded by adding a center in the Ventura Unified District and in 1992 a center was added in the Rio School District. In 1990 "I'm Peer Proof", an assertiveness training course for 4th-6th graders was implemented. In 1991 "Count On Me Kids", a self-esteem, drug prevention program for 1st-2nd graders was introduced. In 1996 Camp Fire USA started the after school program at McAuliffe School in Oxnard. In August 2001 a name change from Camp Fire Boys and Girls to Camp Fire USA became official.
