    Blanchard Community Library

The Homework Center at the Blanchard Community Center provides K-6 students from elementary schoolswith assistance to complete their homework assignments. The library is an integral part of the education of students in the community and are committed to preserving and further developing the Homework Center. Helping students succeed in school is the motivation for this project. Homework help and practice in reading are the main focus.

    Description:
The Homework Center provides help to students in completing their homework assignments. Seventy percent of our children come from Spanish speaking homes. Most children are required to read 20-30 minutes a day. Volunteers are needed to help these children with their reading assignments.

The Homework Center is open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 2:30 to 5:30pm, and Wednesday 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. and is staffed with a bilingual coordinator and a high school student helper. Volunteers round out the staff and come from all fields and all ages. Volunteers of all ages and backgrounds are always welcome and provide countless hours to helping the children.

    History:
Blanchard Community Library has been providing access to information for both recreational and educational needs for 100 years. This is the Centennial year! The Homework Center is relatively new to the library and was started in May 1998. It has grown exponentially each year as we continue to evaluate and improve our program. We now offer bilingual assistance, reading mentors, and math tutoring through High School.
