RSVP Of Oxnard
The mission of the Oxnard RSVP is to enrich the lives of people age 55 and over by building a bridge to meaningful volunteer opportunities that use their time and talent in significant service to the community.
Description:
The Oxnard RSVP has nearly 600 volunteers over the age of 55 who are providing help at one or more of 70+ non-profit, public agency or proprietary health organization partners.
There are so many needs in our community, deciding where to help can be confusing. At Oxnard RSVP, we make it easy for you. In one quick stop, we'll interview you to identify your interests and skills, and then match you up so you can get out there and start helping.
Or, if you already know how you want to serve, we'll put you in touch with a place that needs the skills you offer.
Simply put, we’re a matchmaker between older adults who have skills to offer and organizations that need their help.
History:
RSVP is a national program whose mission is to help people 55 and over find meaningful volunteer opportunities. The City of Oxnard has sponsored RSVP for over 30 years. Last year, 544 adults age 55 and over contributed 77,000 hours of volunteer service to about 70 Oxnard-area nonprofit organizations and public agencies. This represents a savings to taxpayers of $1.69 million.
RSVP is part of the federal Senior Corps program and was founded locally in 1977. Today there are more than 750 RSVP programs across the country with 450,000 RSVP volunteers serving at more than 60,000 public and non-profit agencies. Nationally, these volunteers contribute over 70 million hours annually.
Oxnard RSVP collaborates with more than 70 non-profit and public organizations to address local issues, giving you an abundance of choices in how and where you help. We stay in touch so you don't have to.
In 2009, Oxnard RSVP placed volunteers at 72 sites including hospitals, libraries, senior centers, economic development facilities, the county food bank, the police department, non-profit thrift stores, and homeless agencies. The ways volunteers serve include tutoring, tax preparation, health education, crime prevention, nutrition programs, grocery shopping and delivery, exercise instruction, and assisting in non-profit special events.
