    Agency Details:

    Parents Of Murdered Children

The mission of Parents of Murdered Children, Inc. (POMC) is to provide ongoing emotional support needed to help parents and other survivors deal with the pain of their loss and facilitate the reconstruction of their lives. Ninety-nine percent of our board members are victims of murder, providing members contact with similarly bereaved persons. Our vision is to increase society’s awareness of the problems faced by survivors.

    Description:
POMC provides support that is not available through any counselor, police department or the District Attorney's Victims Assistance program. POMC's support is unique, because the members KNOW first hand what it is to lose a loved one, especially a child to murder. We have self-help groups that meet regularly. The self-help groups provide information about the grief process, the criminal justice system as they pertain to survivors of a homicide victim and allow communication with professionals about the problems faced by those surviving a homicide victim. It is unfortunate to say but Ventura County needs an agency such as Parents of Murdered Children, Inc.

    History:
Based on the idea of that grief must be shared, Parents of Murdered Children, Inc. was born. It was founded by Charlotte and Robert Hullinger in 1978, three months after their daughter, Lisa, was murdered. POMC has expanded to include other family members and friends who are survivors. POMC now has chapters across the United States and provides assistance and support to over 100,000 survivors each year. The Ventura County Chapter is amongst POMC's newest Chapters, whose chapter leaders, Rigo and Marissa Martinez's son Vincent Martinez was murdered March 11, 2005.
