Berylwood Simi Valley Family Resource Center

The Moorpark/Simi Valley Neighborhood for Learning, working together with the whole community, is committed to ensure all our children become healthy, successful learners and future contributing members of our community.

Description:
Funded by First 5 Ventura County through the Boys & Girls Club of Simi Valley, the Moorpark/Simi Valley Neighborhood for Learning offers free services to Moorpark and Simi Valley families of all incomes with children 0-5 years of age in order to encourage school readiness, family strengthening and children's health. Our family resource centers in Moorpark and Simi Valley offer activities for children and their parents that focus on early literacy; also, parenting classes, parent-and-me classes, nutrition classes, summer school readiness programs, health insurance enrollment (Healthy Families and Medi-Cal), and referrals to other agencies for additional services. The Ready Set Grow Mobile Preschool offers parent-participation activities to children that promote early literacy and school readiness. The Quality Improvement Program (QIP) offers training and technical assistance to child care providers and preschools. The Infant/Preschool Scholarship Program offers childcare/preschool subsidies to qualifying children as funding permits.

History:
The Moorpark/Simi Valley Neighborhood for Learning was organized in 2003, based on early childhood needs and services unique to Moorpark and Simi Valley as identified by local surveys and community leaders. The Berylwood Simi Valley Family Resource Center opened in January 2004, sharing a modular building with the Berylwood Head Start Classroom. Development and construction of the building at Berylwood Elementary School was funded through the Moorpark/Simi Valley Neighborhood for Learning. Since then the program has grown into an important community resource serving Simi Valley and Moorpark families.
