Agency Details:
Ventura Center For Dispute Settlement [VCDS]
VCDS's Mission is to promote low cost dispute resolution services for all residents of Ventura County through mediation, arbitration, training and education.
Description:
The Ventura Center for Dispute Settlement is the "Community Mediation Service" in Ventura County. VCDS provides low cost and no cost mediation, conciliation and arbitration services on an equal opportunity basis for all residents and businesses in the County. In addition to its dispute resolution services, VCDS serves as the primary training agency for persons who desire mediation training through our semi-annual training programs, and provides internship as well as ongoing training for our panel of mediators. VCDS is the official mediation service designated to assist in non-judicial resolution of Small Claims Court cases. VCDS and its mediators have been active in promoting not only solutions to 'small' disputes which affect our everyday quality of life, but have also engaged in hosting large scale meetings and discussions about matters of concern to the community at large.
History:
VCDS was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) organization in August of 1990 and conducted its first mediator training in 1991. Since that time VCDS has trained many hundreds of persons in successful negotiation and mediation techniques, including members of city and county government, HR personnel and other leaders of high profile businesses in the County, as well as representatives of the United States Navy. VCDS staff and mediators have resolved hundreds of disputes without the need for court intervention. The Board of Directors moved the offices of VCDS to the current location in Camarillo in 2003.
